Gubi

Established in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1967, Gubi's core philosophy is to develop beautiful quality, innovative, functional designs - long lasting, beautifully crafted, timeless pieces with global market appeal. The acquisition, in 2004, of the licence to market and manufacture the 1930's Bauhaus inspired Bestlite Collection marked a strategic turning point for Gubi.
Vision, will and courage are essential ingredients in the recipe on Gubi's success. The family behind the more than forty year old company has created a creative platform for functional and innovative design with a strong appeal towards the global market. This did not happen without striking a strategic and economic blow, but the ability to create new concepts and the courage to swim against the tide has brought Gubi back to a front position in the Danish design world. With this base the strategy is now more focused on unique design icons.
The ability to develop - and not to forget the ability to uncover - design icons runs in the Gubi family DNA. An eagle eye together with a good portion of obstinacy and not to forget the courage to follow the idea, has for certain been passed down from Lisbeth and Gubi Olsen to their sons Jacob and Sebastian Gubi, who today is responsible for managing the creative visions in the company and partner with focus on the contract market, respectively, that their parents founded in 1967.
At the time the small niche company focused on design, product development and selling textiles to the retail business. Today, four decades later the company has just grown bigger. Firstly, because of the development of Gubi Olsen's own furniture designs and the foundation of the legendary textile Holmens Klæde. Followed by creative collaborations with external designers, e.g. Boris Berlin and Poul Christiansen, known as Komplot Design. Finally, the well-developed eagle eye can also be ascribed that Gubi today own the rights to the Bestlite collection.
Gubi Olsen spotted the lamp in 1989 and five years later got the production and sales rights worldwide. The Bestlite lamp is highly influenced by the Bauhaus period and has been in continuous production since 1930. Loved by architects, designers and design aficionados for the past 80 years, Bestlite today is a genuine global design icon.
