Vitra Miniature Landi Chair

Vitra Miniatures Collection.

The Landi chair (or Landistuhl) is a pioneer of modern aluminium chairs: it is practical, lightweight and virtually indestructible. Coray’s chair weighs only 7 lbs. and can stack effortlessly. Not only was the Landi chair destined to become the most memorable object of the 1939 Swiss National Exhibition, it is regarded as the most successful outdoor chair of the 20th century. Its perforated hole pattern lends the chair an airy look, provides stability and allows for drainage from outdoor use. The 2007 re-edition of the Landistuhl is made with 91 holes, as originally designed: 7x7 on the back and 7x6 on the seat. (At one point the design was modified to 60 holes to prevent metal fatigue and cracking of the seat and backrest).
