Vitra Miniatures Collection.
Designed at the beginning of the 1950's for the Cité Universitaire at Antony, near Paris, the Antony chair was one of Prouvé’s last efforts in the field of furniture design. Often cited as his finest design, the dynamic Antony chair makes the difficult look easy with expert construction and simple, lively geometry. The chair base is made of "boomerangs" shaped out of steel that echo the curves of the seated user for comfort and support. The open-sided shell seat appears to be suspended in the frame, unencumbered by additional supports, yet is firmly secured at four different points with visible industrial hardware. The gentle slope of the seat and back and low height of the chair allow the sitter to recline in such a way that pressure isn't accumulated in any one particular area of the body, thus creating a comfortable chair to relax in.
